Quick Hitter: Extrajudicial Rendition
Last year Mahmoud Khalil was a student at Columbia University in New York. In the country on a student visa, he was a face of the pro-Palestinian protests on the campus. He has since graduated and gotten his Green Card. Mahmoud is married to an American woman who is 8 months pregnant.
Over the weekend ICE agents appeared at his home and detained him, claiming that his student visa had been revoked. When told that he now has a Green Card, they conferred with someone over the phone, then said the Green Card was also revoked. They arrested Khalil without due process. He broke no laws, much less has he been charged with, or convicted of any crime. At the time of this writing, his wife and attorney do not know where he is being held.
The entire story is covered very well by Fred Wellman, so I will just link his story.
I did not expect to see anything about this on legacy media, as after all, Khalil is just some Palestinian guy. I mean, it’s not like he is some popular influencer. I have been a bit surprised to see some coverage, including mentions on AP News and NBC News, although the latter was more to cover the protests that have erupted.
Perhaps ironically expected is this statement from the Anti-Defamation League:
One would think that this group in particular would be sensitive to jackbooted government thugs rounding up people and disappearing them because of their beliefs.
One would be wrong.
Take Care and Stay Strong. And SPEAK OUT against this travesty.
