Lost in the uproar following Trump’s announcement in late January that the United States would be “taking over” the Gaza Strip was an ominous portent. Trump claimed that the 2 million Palestinians in Gaza would be “resettled” in either Egypt or Jordan. Conspicuously absent was any suggestion to send these Palestinians to the already-existing Palestinian lands in the West Bank. I noticed and pointed out to friends that this was intentional.
Unfortunately, this was the obvious end result of the war between Hamas and Israel, and anyone who didn’t see this coming was simply not paying attention. Not only does this action mark the first time in 20 years that Israeli tanks have rolled on Palestinian soil in the West Bank, but they have no plans of leaving any time soon. This isn’t patented Arab conspiracy theory, the IDF is saying this themselves. (Emphasis added)
“So far, 40,000 Palestinians have evacuated from the refugee camps of Jenin, Tulkarem, and Nur Shams, which are now empty of residents,” Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said in a statement.
“I have instructed [troops] to prepare for a prolonged presence in the cleared camps for the coming year and to prevent the return of residents and the resurgence of terrorism,” he added.
BUT BUT BUT UNCOMMITTED HERP DERP
Miss me with the easy retort blaming all of this on the voters in Michigan who bought into the Uncommitted propaganda. I already wrote quite a bit about this, so feel free to review here:
What I will ask at this time though is: where are the protests now? How, exactly, did all of the protesters just vanish after the election? I realize that the semester ended and students went home for winter break. I also know that many schools have clamped down on free speech on campus, with several threatening expulsion. That said, it does make one wonder who may have been instigating the protests during the fall, and why those voices are now silent when far worse actions are being carried out against the Palestinians.
Remember, the Uncommitted movement told Arabs to vote for Jill Stein. They did this knowing that Stein had no shot at winning.1 Jill Stein is a problematic figure, who just happened to be the benefactor of a Russian influence campaign during the 2016 election. Perhaps we should have seen this coming, as she made no effort to hide her association with Putin back in 2015.
United States of Genocide
It’s pretty disgusting that the only thing that Trump is keeping around from the Biden administration is the unabashed support of Israel and its genocidal aims. I know that I should not be surprised, our country has shown time and again that this is who we are. Please note that I don’t have a problem with the Israeli people (well, many if not most of them) nor do I deny Israel’s right to exist. I do, however, in the strongest possible terms, denounce and loathe the actions of the Zionists currently running the country as well as their feckless enablers here in our country.
There was a pretty deafening chorus of criticism for the United States’ vote against a UN Resolution blaming the war with Ukraine on Russia. It was a disgusting moment, and many correctly pointed out that the United States had voted alongside such progressive nations as Russia, Belarus, Iran, and North Korea. Many folks did conveniently leave out one nation that also voted against the resolution: Israel.
Kshama Sawant was a key member in the Uncommitted movement. She was an outspoken Socialist in Seattle, and per friends of mine who live there, a pain in the ass. Decide for yourselves if that’s a good thing or not.
Note: You would think that this would be a pretty big story. Yet it is only to be found on CBS News' website home page. I was able to find it on World subpages on other sites, but that's pretty telling.
