Well, that was fast. When I wrote this piece yesterday, one of my overarching concerns was that if this administration was allowed to rendition noncitizens out of the country and into a prison camp, how long would it be before they did the same to citizens? Here’s your answer1:
I realize that we should worry about what this asshole does rather than freak out about everything he says or bleats on social. That is often the best way to deal with his steady stream of bullshit. In this case however I felt the need to share because allowing direct threats to American Citizens like this cannot be allowed.
I often worry that I am overreacting, that by freaking out about this stuff I am complicit in the normalization of his autocratic behavior. After all, I believe that part of the reason that many Americans are not cognizant of the seriousness of our current situation is that people may have overused words like “fascist” and “Nazi” over the last decade of Trumpism. In this case, I do not feel that this is an overreaction. This is the sitting President of the United States openly musing on his social media platform about deporting American citizens. For the heinous crime of criticizing a business that happens to be owned by his largest donor (and co-president).2
Folks, that’s fucked up. It’s also illustrative of the challenge ahead of us, as I had to search for a while to confirm that the screenshot I saw was real. It’s certainly not being covered on the legacy media sites, at least not as of this writing. I hate this particular thought experiment, but can you imagine the (deserved) outrage from both the GOP and the media had Obama tweeted out that he wanted to send Tea Party members to Gitmo? He would have been summarily impeached, and for good reason.
This is not normal. This is not ok. This should not be glossed over or hand-waved away.
Take Care and Stay Strong
Just as with Musk’s site, I will not post live links to Trump’s propaganda site. I will also never post a screenshot that I have not verified.
I realize he is probably talking about the spate of vandalism against Tesla dealerships, which is not helping anyone. The bleat does not specifically say that though, so anyone seeing it may just think it refers to the heavy, and deserved, price Musk’s flagship company is paying for its CEO’s behavior.
I commented what I thought was a progressive reddit sub that what happened to Mahmoud Khalil was a test of concept, and that it wouldn't be long before anyone who openly dissented with the current administration or the actions of unelected bureaucrats dismantling the underpinnings of our government as a means to obtain power and pay for more tax cuts for the rich would be rounded up and disappeared.
I was yelled at, called an antisemite and a supporter of a pro-Hamas terrorist.
